New Citroen e-C5 Aircross: 680 km Range Electric SUV

Citroen has just unveiled its second-generation C5 Aircross, and the all-electric e-C5 Aircross variant is nothing short of revolutionary. Taking full advantage of Stellantis’ new STLA Medium platform, this electric SUV promises to eliminate range anxiety while delivering the comfort and spaciousness that families crave.

Stunning Design Meets Aerodynamic Efficiency

The new e-C5 Aircross represents a significant departure from its predecessor’s curvy profile, adopting a more assertive, muscular stance with sharper lines that define Citroen’s latest design language. Measuring 4,652 mm long (150 mm longer than the previous model) and 1,902 mm wide, it commands presence on the road.

Citroen’s designers have masterfully combined power with aerodynamic efficiency. They completely enclosed the front section to optimise airflow while gently sloping the roofline after the second row to improve aerodynamics without compromising headroom. The result? An impressive SCX of 0.75 (compared to 0.84 for the previous generation) translates to an additional 30 km of electric range on highways.

Perhaps the most eye-catching design element is the innovative Citroen Light Wings at the rear, featuring a distinctive 3-point light signature with two exterior light points that appear to float like fins on each side of the vehicle. Engineers carefully designed these not just for show—they guide airflow and improve efficiency.

A Digital Cocoon of Comfort

Citroen designed the interior of the e-C5 Aircross according to their C-Zen Lounge architecture, creating a lounge-like atmosphere that prioritises wellbeing. The centrepiece is the spectacular Waterfall Touchscreen—the largest central HD touchscreen Stellantis has ever offered—which cascades down from the dashboard to connect seamlessly with the centre console.

Citroen’s Advanced Comfort seats reach new heights in the e-C5 Aircross, featuring thick textured foam elements and, for the first time, electrically adjustable side bolsters that adapt to your body shape. The optional heating, ventilation, and massage functions with five different programs ensure ultimate comfort on long journeys.

Designers also focused on rear passengers, creating backrests that recline between 21° and 33° for ideal posture and offering heated rear seats on higher trim levels.

Class-Leading Space and Practicality

Thanks to the efficient design of the STLA Medium platform, the e-C5 Aircross offers identical boot space regardless of powertrain—a remarkable achievement for an electric vehicle. It stands at the top of its class from 565 dm³ (651 L water) with the rear seats in place to 1,668 dm³ with the bench seat folded down.
The extended wheelbase of 2.78m (60 mm more than the previous generation) translates to exceptional rear legroom, matching that of the larger C5 X. The Headroom in the second row has also increased by 68 mm compared to the previous model.

What is the range of the Citroen e-C5 Aircross?

Citroen offers the e-C5 Aircross with two electric powertrain options, both delivering exceptional range:

  • The 210 bhp (157 kW) version, paired with a 73 kWh battery, delivers up to 520 km of range.
  • The long-range 230 bhp (170 kW) version with a larger 97 kWh battery provides an impressive 680 km of range in the WLTP combined cycle.

These figures place the e-C5 Aircross at the forefront of electric SUVs in its class, making it practical for daily commutes and extended road trips.

Fast Charging for Minimal Downtime

Citroen equips the e-C5 Aircross with impressive charging capabilities. The SUV comes standard with an 11 kW three-phase charger, with plans to offer an optional 22 kW three-phase bi-directional charger from 2026. Using a 160 kW ultra-fast terminal, drivers can charge the 73 kWh battery from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes, while the larger 97 kWh battery takes only 27 minutes.
Even more impressive, quick charging can recover up to 160 km of range in just ten minutes—perfect for those brief pit stops during longer journeys.

Technology and Features

The e-C5 Aircross comes equipped with Citroen’s latest driving assistance systems, including the Drive Assist 2.0 pack for Level 2 autonomous driving. Features like semi-automatic lane changing, rear traffic alert, and extended blind spot detection make every journey safer and more relaxed.
For electric driving specifically, the connected navigation system includes an EV trip planner that calculates the most efficient route in real-time, automatically incorporating charging stops when necessary and suggesting the most powerful charging points to minimise journey time.

Sustainable Manufacturing

Designed in France and assembled at Citroen’s historic plant in Rennes, Brittany, the e-C5 Aircross demonstrates Citroen’s commitment to sustainability. The seat covers are made from recycled fabrics, and the vehicle contains 160 kg of recycled metals and 47 kg of recycled or bio-sourced plastics.

An interesting eco-innovation: the clear plastic indoor and console storage areas incorporate 20% vine shoots sourced from organic vineyards in Burgundy, making the C5 Aircross the first car in the world to integrate vine shoots in its design.

The 97 kWh battery pack is produced at the ACC gigafactory in Douvrin, Nord, while the electric drive module is designed and produced in Trémery, France—truly a Made in France electric vehicle.

When is the Citroen e-C5 Aircross Electric Option available in Ireland?

The new Citroen e-C5 Aircross will go on sale in the main European markets in the second half of 2025, completing Citroen’s complete range renewal in less than two years. Therefore, the e-C5 Aircross will arrive in Ireland in 2026.
For families seeking a spacious, comfortable electric SUV with exceptional range and the latest technology, the e-C5 Aircross represents a compelling option that eliminates compromises typically associated with electric vehicles. With its remarkable combination of style, space, comfort and range, it’s set to become a benchmark in the electric C-SUV segment.
