The Polestar range is set to expand later this year with the arrival of the new Polestar 3—a five-seat SUV built on the same advanced electric platform as the next-generation Volvo XC90. Only a single official image has been released so far, showcasing a long, gently sloping roofline and what appears to be a full-length panoramic glass roof. This is a striking addition to the premium electric SUV market in Ireland.
Polestar 3 – What to expect?
While the full reveal is scheduled for October, early glimpses suggest that the Polestar 3’s front end will echo the dramatic Precept concept car from 2021. The Precept’s design language—first seen on a four-door GT soon to become the Polestar 5—signals a bold new direction for the brand.
Impressive range
Polestar aims to equip the Polestar 3 with a large battery, likely exceeding 80kWh, targeting a real-world range of up to 600 kilometres—ideal for Irish motorists seeking both performance and practicality. Similar to the Polestar 2, the new dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup SUV is expected to deliver over 400hp, with a more efficient single-motor variant planned for later release. This positions the Polestar 3 as a direct competitor to models like the Audi e-tron and Tesla Model Y.
Bring the ‘sport’ back
Polestar CEO Thomas Ingelath describes the Polestar 3 as “the SUV for the electric age,” stating, “With this car, we bring the ‘sport’ back to the SUV, staying true to our performance roots.” The Polestar 3 will feature a new generation of driver assistance, including best-in-class LiDAR sensors powered by NVIDIA processing. This technology is expected to enable Level 3 automated driving—allowing hands-off operation for extended periods on motorways.
Production and Ambitions
Production of the Polestar 3 is set to begin early next year, with the company targeting an ambitious 290,000 vehicles per year by 2025. The 3 will be followed by additional models, cementing Polestar’s reputation for innovation and sustainability in the electric vehicle sector.
