The Polestar range will expand later this year with the arrival of the new 3, a five-seat SUV that will be built using the same electric platform as the next Volvo XC90. Only one image of the car has been officially released so far, showing a long and gently sloping roofline that is likely to incorporate a full-length panoramic glass design.
We have yet to see the car in its entirety, which will happen in October this year, but this early glimpse shows how the front will mimic what the company demonstrated with its dramatic Precept concept car in 2021. That was a four-door GT car, which will also reach production in 2025 under the Polestar 5 name.
A large battery likely to exceed 80kWh will power the Polestar 3 and a driving range of 600 kilometres is being targeted. Similar to the Polestar 2, the new SUV will have a dual-motor setup and performance will most likely exceed 400hp. A more efficient single motor version will follow later.

With this car, we bring the ‘sport’ back to the SUV, staying true to our performance roots. This is a major milestone for our company, one that boosts our growth trajectory and takes us into our next phase.”
Polestar will also roll out a new generation of driver assistance that uses ‘best-in-class LiDAR sensors with NVIDIA processing. That should be good enough for Level 3 automated driving, meaning hands-off the steering wheel for extended periods on motorways.
The Polestar 3 is set to enter production early next year and will be followed by additional models as the company targets an ambitious growth target of 290,000 vehicles per year by 2025.
